3 Months Old

Mr Collin turned 3 months old yesterday and boy is he growing up fast. Lots of things to tell, might be a long blog this time.

So to start December was a month of a lot of firsts.

Dec 1st - started sleeping in his own crib at night and started sleeping 6 hours at a time.
(the baby monitor we bought works like a charm, at first I was nervous to use it, but it works) there was no turning back either, it has been 29 nights of sleeping on his own in his room, and we have gone from 5 to 6 hours of sleep to 8 to 9 hours of sleep. He goes to bed somewhere from 7:30 to 8:00 then has a bottle around 2:30am then does not get up till 7:00am.. WHOO HOO!

Dec 12th - got his first round of shots

Dec 16th - While my cousin Britney was holding him, she felt his gums and said he has two little bumps, his teeth are coming it... WOW I couldn't believe it, I thought it was two early but sure enough he has his two bottom teeth coming in.. He drools up a storm. We constantly have to change the bib he is wearing.

Dec 23 - When he woke up for his 2:30 midnight snack, I went in his room to get him to find that he was on his back on the opposite side of the crib.... and I put him down on his tummy facing the other side of the bed. humm how did he do that....was this our first time to roll over?

Dec 25th our first Christmas  - it was perfect.

Dec 28th he found his hands and arms, its like it just happen over night, he never raised his arms up before.. and on the 28th he just never put them down, it like his made little fists and punched the sky for almost 4 hours, and thought it was just the coolest thing ever. Now his does it all the time. And he can hold things in his hands too.

Dec 29th Again when I went to go and get him for his 2:30 feeding, he was on his back again, on the opposite side of the crib that I put him down on.. Crazy.. he can really move in his sleep and now he can roll over. Just wish he would do it so I could see.

Also a new thing that happen this month was Collin HATES the car seat and does not like to ride in the car, I think he just hates being alone in the back seat. So Walmart had a portable DVD player on sale for 39 dollars before Christmas and we got one. IT WORKS!! 95% of the time, he watches Fox and the Hound 2 and loves it. This mommy loves it too, I always felt so bad because he would scream the entire time he was in the car when we were going somewhere.

He also loves his bath time, it is hard to imagine when he was born how much he hated being naked, now he loves to have no clothes on.. Too funny how much they change.

We switched formula to simalac sensitive, spit up. He also has 4oz bottles every three hours during the day, and just this past week I started making 6oz bottles a couple of times a day, Especially when he wakes up in the morning.

There are so many more things to tell, but it time to wrap it up... I can't wait for 2012 to see what the new year will bring us. We are already starting with a couple of new changes. Josh got a new job, he is starting at a new Bank here in Victoria, and I am loving being a stay at home mommy with Collin. He keeps me busy.

Happy New Year Everyone!! Hope the 2012 year brings you lots of happiness.  (lots of pictures below.)

2 month shots

Today's doctors visit went really well. 30 mins before his appointment I gave him a half a dose of Tylenol. I am really glad I did, he was much more relaxed and did really good. His check up with the doctor went really well, he said he was a very healthy baby. He was 16 inches around his head, 23 inches long, 12lbs 1 oz. 50 percentile on all. The dr said we could start solids at 4 months. Then it was time for the nurse to come in for the shots. He had 3 shots and one oral med. He took the oral med no problem. I stood over him and let him hold on tight to my fingers. The first shot he screamed so hard I felt so bad for him. The next two were not has bad as the first one but once it was over I held him tight and wiped away the tears and he was okay. This afternoon he has just been really sleepy. No fever which is really good. We go to our next doctor appointment February 14th valentine's day. Very proud of my little one. And me too, I didn't cry.

Big Changes - make a happy baby

Lots of things have been going on in the world of Collin.

Well since the last time I posted, that night I put him in his crib in his room, and he slept 6 hours! Who knew that all it would take is putting him in his crib that he would sleep like a rock. I also put him on his tummy to sleep. He has acid reflux and this is the best way for him to sleep. I know there are many out there that say he must sleep on his back, but when he does he throws up and chokes. I felt so bad for him all those nights. But now since he is sleeping in his crib, and on his tummy things are working like a charm. We have tried two different medicines with him, the first one was axid and it didn't seem to work. So now we are trying something different. Also we had to switch his formula from enfamil to simalac sensitive spit up. He really likes the new formula, it is a little thicker and seems to be easier on his tummy. We also have added a half of a tsp of rice cereal to his bottle at night before he goes to sleep. So I would have to say things are getting better, not perfect, but definitely a lot better. After all of these changes, he too seems to be a happier baby.

We are getting lots of smiles now. Especially in the morning when he wakes up. I sing songs to him and make all kinds of animal noises. I think he must think I am nuts because he just cracks up over this. He really likes it when I quack and sound like a duck. That seems to always get a smile.

Another new find is ELMO. I was on the computer one day and got on YouTube and found Elmo. He was hooked. He got so excited and when I turned off the computer he was upset and as soon as I put it back on he was happy again. (this is becoming a trend) he knows how to get what he wants. So since then, once a day we watch Elmo on the computer and I have downloaded 3 free apps to my iPhone. He loves it.

We also have started giving baths in the bath tub. He likes this so much better than in the small tub that you can put on the counter by the sink. Not sure what it is but he just lays in tub and just coos. I am so happy now that he does not just scream the entire time I try to bathe him.

He is still loving to stand, he is very strong and can bare most of his weight by himself. We spend lots of time bouncing and standing on my lap. He also is drooling up a storm. He really needs to keep a bib on most of the day, but I can't keep up with them. I don't think he is teething yet, just lots of drool.

Back to sleeping, things are going good. For the past 12 days he has been in bed by 8:45 and sleeps 6 to 7 hours. He wakes up, I change him, give him a four ounce bottle and then he goes right back to sleep. Then he has been waking up again around 7:30am and we start our day. He has 3 or 4 naps during the day from 30 mins to 2 hours. I never really know when they are going to be.

In all, I am just really happy that HE is happier. The amount of time during the day that he was crying has reduced a lot. I just really hope he feels better. Tomorrow we are going to the doctor for our 2 month shots. I really hope it goes okay.

Here are some photos of the past two weeks.

2 Months Old - News...

Yesterday was Collin's 2 month birthday. We woke up at 8:30 had a bottle then went back to sleep till 10am. We got him dressed and out the door we went. We went to Hall Lighting and picked up some presents for Nana and Alberta then we went across the street to Shop the World, love that store, it has really pretty Christmas stuff. Then it was time for us to meet Nana and Alberta for Lunch. It was their birthdays too. Collin slept through the shopping part, but of course as soon as we got to eat, he wanted to eat. This always happens. I think he smells the food and gets hungry. We had a great time at lunch, then it was time to go see his Daddy. We went by his work and Collin got to see all of his co workers. They all think he looks like Josh, but I still see a little bit of me. While walking around Josh's work I guess Collin needed to burp again and I did not have a burp cloth on me, so he got me good. I was covered in baby puke. Lovely... Now it was time to go home and I only had to rock him for just a little while and he was ready to take a nap. (so was this mommy) We slept from 3:30 to 5:30. Whoo Hoo. I needed that. The rest of the night went really well. He was a little fussy from 10 to 12:30 but not too bad.

He is still sleeping at night 3 to 4 hours at a time. Sometimes I get 5 hours but not often. During the day he takes 2 hour naps. He is still drinking 4oz bottles about every 3 hours. He is wearing 3 mons clothes. He is very long and can even sometimes fit in 6 mons clothes. Collin still does not like bath time at ALL.. He screams until you wrap in back in a towel, maybe one day he will like it. He loves to stand when you are holding him. And he is getting very strong. When he is on his tummy, he is able to use his elbows and push himself up. Also he has learned to scoot when he is on his tummy. You can put him on one end of the blanket and before you know it, he can make it to the other side. The doctor had to push back his 2 month apt to the 12 of December and then it is time for his shots. I really hope it goes well.

Big weekend a head of us, going to Goliad for the Christmas Parade and then Christmas at the square on Saturday here in Victoria. Going to take lots of pictures, Collin is dressing up as an elf... :-)

A big boy!!

So we have really been working on this sleeping thing. Most nights he would just end up in bed with us. And I know most people are against it. However, I don't mind I just don't want him to get used to it. Plus I don't sleep very good when he is with us. So... I have been trying to put him down on his own, in his own bed and last night it worked!!! 5 hours in his bed. Had a bottle then went back down again. Yay!! Then this morning from 6 to 8 he wanted to play. So I did, I was just so happy he slept in his bed at night. Going to try for round two tonight.

His play time is changing alot. He is more alert each day. He loves for you to hold him so he can stand. If you make him sit, he sticks out the bottom lip and fusses. Too cute. Make him stand again and he is happy. Plus we are starting to get grins out of him. No big smiles yet, but you can tell when he is happy.

I can't believe he is almost 2 months old. Time goes by so fast.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

6 Weeks Old and some FUN.

We have been busy lately. Josh had his 30th birthday this past weekend. We went to Houston for the night. My first night away from Collin. I did okay, I cried twice on the way to Houston, I missed him so much. But once we got there things got better. We went to St Arnold's Brewery, 300 Bowling Alley, The Galleria, Chili's, Rajin Cajun, and then we ended at Little Woodrow's. It was a blast and Josh had a great time. We stayed the night at the Doubletree Hotel at the Galleria.  Overall great weekend.

Collin did really good with my mom for Saturday night. She said that he had one rough hour, from 8 to 9pm but otherwise a good baby. A big thanks to my mom for keeping him over night.

Some new things about Collin. Still GROWING UP TOO FAST for this mommy.. :-)

He had his 6 week check up last Thursday.
He weighs 10lbs 13oz and is 22 inches long.
He is still eating 3 to 4 oz every 2 1/2 hours.
Enfamil Newborn Formula. (he likes it)
As of yesterday, I have stopped breastfeeding. It took about a week, but I just slowly stopped. Reducing each day the amount of times I fed him. He seems happy though. I think it was a good transition.
Collin has also found his tongue. It is so cute, he will sit there for a good 30 mins sticking his tongue in and out and plays. He will also suck on his pacifier for longer periods of time. Before it would last about 5 mins max, now he can suck on the pacifier until he is ready to spit it out.
He is still only sleeping 2 to 3 hours at a time. Some nights it is just 2 hours each time, but every once in a while we get 3 hours. AND last night we got 3 and half hours twice. So he only woke up twice through the night. YAY.
We are also getting more and more smiles when he is sleeping. I really hope he smiles soon when he is awake. I can't wait.

Going to post some of the pictures from the past week.

Day to Day - 5 Weeks today

The last time I posted, Collin and I both had a cold. Well I feel a lot better and Collin is getting better too. He is still a little congested when he wakes up in the morning, but throughout the day he sounds a lot better. We had a great Halloween. Collin was dressed up as a little monster and we had a ton of trick or treaters come to the house. The costumes this year were so cute. Something I did notice though, was that families were dressing up together. We had a family that were all the characters of Toy Story 3, Wizard of OZ and even a ship full of pirates. I can't wait to be able to do that with Collin. I just hope that Josh is up for the challenge. Next week is a big week. Josh is turning 30 on Friday. We are going to Houston for the weekend, and Collin is staying with Grandma and Grandpa. First time to be away overnight. A little nervous, but I have a week to get ready. :-)

1 Month Old!!

Our little man turned 1 month old today. He is growing so fast, every day I see something new or he is trying something different. It has been a rough 5 days though. Wednesday I started to feel bad. I had a runny nose and felt like I had a little bit of fever. Then Wednesday night Collin got really fussy. We stayed up all night trying to keep him happy and calm. All he wanted to do was sleep on our chest. I thought he had a fever too, and of course this first time mommy had no idea what to do. I ran to Walgreens to get medicine. But then when I go home he calmed down and didn't have a fever. But he sounded so congested, I felt so bad for him. So then on Thursday my mom came to help me. We took Collin to the doctor and she said he had some kind of virus. That he probably got it from me. She wanted to put him on Amoxicillin and to make sure we kept him propped up not to let him lay flat. They also weighed him and he is 10lbs 2oz. He has gained 2lbs in four weeks. So as soon as we got his medicine then it was time for me to go to the Dr. And sure enough I had a upper respiratory infection. My doctor put me on amoxicillin too and some nasal spray. Thursday night was a lot better and Friday we both seemed to be doing better the medicine seems to be doing the trick. I still feel bad for him you can hear how congested he still is. I hate sucking all the mucus out of his nose. He cries so hard. But each day is better.

So now for today we had a great morning and this afternoon we went to Sears to take 1 month old pictures. They did a great job there with him. The pictures are cute, we just don't get them until Nov 11th. On Monday they said they will send me a link so at least you can view them on the web. We dressed him in a little baseball outfit.

So we are still breastfeeding and supplementing with a bottle. He is drinking 3oz with the bottle and we are feeding about every 2 and half hours. And at night every 3 hours. He is sleeping about every 3 hours too.

That's our update for the week, hope everyone has a great weekend and a Happy Halloween. Cant wait to see all the pics of the little ones in their costumes. Here are some photos from the week.

3 Weeks and 3 Days old - plus a visit from Friends

Great weekend this weekend. David and Jennifer came down to see Collin from Houston. Saturday afternoon we went to Bootfest, Collin, David and my mom, for the afternoon. Collin did so good we were able to walk around for about an hour and half before he started to get fussy and it was time to go home. Then Saturday night, grandma stayed home with Collin and Josh and I got to go back out to bootfest with Jen and David and watch a band and fireworks until 10. That's the latest I have stayed out. Boy was I tired. But we had a really great time. Today we were able to spend the afternoon out in the country with my family. Everyone got to pass around the baby and take lots of pictures. He is very loved.

Collin is growing so fast. He seems to be getting bigger by the minute. We are about to go to 1 size diapers as soon as we finish the box we have. We have been using Pampers Swaddlers. They work really well. Collin has been spitting up more and more lately though. And seems to be fussier. I think it is gas pains. We had to start using some drops. They seem to be doing the trick, but when he does get fussy, he starts crying so hard, and I feel so bad I wish I could help and make the pain go away faster. We are starting to have naps that last 3 hours now. More 3 hour naps than 2 hour naps. Hoping this is a good sign of things to come. We are still breastfeeding two feedings and then a bottle feeding on the third. Although, breastfeeding is becoming kinda hard for this mommy, and I think soon we will probably switch to just a bottle. But I am going to try and hang in there as long as I can.

Here are some pictures from this weekend.
